For therapists

Hearby is open to licensed Ontario mental health professionals in good standing with their regulatory college, including Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), Registered Social Workers (OCSWSSW), and Registered Psychologists (CPO). You must be comfortable working in a brief, solution-focused frame.

Standard sessions pay 75% of the session fee to you. If you join as a founding therapist (first 30), you lock in an 80/20 split for life. There are no monthly fees, no subscription requirements, and no panel minimums. Payment is processed the same day via Stripe Connect with direct deposit.

No certification is required. You don't need to be a formal SST specialist, but you do need to be comfortable working in a single-session frame: setting a clear focus, being present-oriented, and not requiring ongoing contact as a precondition for effective work. Therapists with CBT, DBT, solution-focused, or brief narrative training are well-positioned.

You do. Hearby operates as an electronic service provider under PHIPA s. 10(4). You remain the Health Information Custodian for every client you see on the platform. Your session notes are encrypted and inaccessible to Hearby staff.

Yes, always. You receive the client's intake summary before confirming the match. You can decline without explanation. Hearby's safety screening routes anyone in acute crisis directly to 9-8-8 before they ever reach booking, so you will not be matched with high-acuity clients.

A computer or tablet with a camera, a stable internet connection, and headphones. Hearby provides the encrypted video platform, no third-party video software needed. Sessions run directly in the browser.

Same-day direct deposit via Stripe Connect, triggered when the session ends. Stripe processes it within a few hours; when it arrives in your bank depends on your bank's processing policy, typically the same or next business day.

For clients

Single-session therapy (SST) is a brief, evidence-based model designed to deliver meaningful outcomes in one conversation. Sessions are goal-focused: you bring a specific concern, and your therapist works with you to develop practical insight or a path forward, all within one session. It is not a scaled-down version of regular therapy; it is a distinct model with strong evidence behind it.

We are building toward same-day and next-day availability. During beta, availability depends on therapist schedules. Once you have completed your intake, the platform shows you available therapists and their next open slots.

Therapists set their own rates, typically between $80 and $160 for a 45-minute session. You pay only for the session you attend, no subscription, no recurring charges. The fee is displayed clearly before you confirm your booking.

Yes. Hearby is PHIPA-compliant and all data is stored on Canadian servers. Your therapist is your Health Information Custodian, they hold your records, not Hearby. No Hearby staff can access your session notes. Sessions are end-to-end encrypted.

Hearby is not a crisis service. The intake process includes a safety screening, and anyone showing signs of acute distress is directed to 9-8-8 (Canada's Suicide Crisis Helpline) before any booking is made. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911.

Yes. If a therapist has availability and you both agree to follow-up work, you can book another session. Hearby does not impose limits on returning to a therapist, though the platform is designed for single-session work, not as a substitute for ongoing therapy.

Many extended health benefit plans cover services from Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, and Registered Psychologists. Coverage depends on your specific plan. Hearby provides a session receipt you can submit to your benefits provider. We recommend checking your plan's mental health coverage before booking.
